methanol to ethanol conversion

Step 1: 

first we convert methanol to methyl cyanide where methanol is treated with PCL5 and we get methyl chloride then upon treated with kcn we get methyl cyanide

step 2:

 in step 2 methyl cyanide converted to acetic acid by hydrolysis in acid medium then acetic acid converted to ethanol by strong reducing agent lithium aluminium hydride
